| STD-ITDI’s Inorganic Chemicals Laboratory
gets ISO 17025 Accreditation

The
Standards & Testing Division (STD) or the Institute recently
obtained its accreditation to ISO/IEC 17025:2005. The ceremonial
awarding of the Certificate of Accreditation was given by Dr. Cirila S.
Botor, OIC - Philippine Accreditation Office of the Department of Trade
& Industry (PAO-DTI) during the DOST flag ceremony of September 14,
2009.
The certificate was granted after STD has been assessed and found
conforming to the requirements of PNS ISO/IEC 17025:2005 and the PAO
conditions for laboratory accreditation in the field of chemical
testing as specified in the scope of accreditation. Tests accredited
are those for the determination of a) metal anions (Fl-, Cl-, Br-,
Nitrites, Nitrates), acidity, etc. on waters and wastewaters in
accordance with Standard Methods for the Examination of Water and
Wastewater, APHA, 21st Edition, 2005, and b) extractable metals (e.g.
Pb, Cd, etc.) in uPVC pipes, ceramic wares, feeding bottles, etc.
against relevant ISO/ASTM standards.
Approved signatories for the above-mentioned tests are
Concepcion P. Gayomali, Josefina T. Hernandez, Liwayway M. Piquero,
Crislyn A. Lu, Ruth L. Damian, and Emma D. Tayag of the Inorganic
Chemistry Laboratory (ICL-STD). The accreditation is valid until August
2014.
Marlon SA. Aguinaldo, OIC of the Microbiology Laboratory of
STD on the other hand, was conferred a certificate from PAO for having
been assessed and found competent to be an approved signatory for
microbiological testing as specified in the scope of accreditation
granted earlier to the laboratory in December 2008. Marlon's approved
signatory status is valid until December 2013.
